Kia Rio's 1.6-liter engine uses direct injection to aid power and fuel economy, resulting in the best horsepower in the segment and fuel economy highway ratings in the 40-mpg range. The optional Idle Stop and Go system found on the Eco package, typically reserved for more expensive cars, automatically turns the engine off and on at long stops, saving more fuel for urban drivers and reducing emissions. The Rio is offered in LX, EX, and SX trim levels. Power comes from a 138-hp 1.6-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine. Depending on trim level, either a six-speed manual transmission, or a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode is offered.
Kia's fuel-sipping Rio subcompact car is offered in sedan and four-door hatchback body styles. It is available with high-tech features, and gets new under-body covers for better aerodynamics. Inside, there's a new water temperature gauge and the available leather-wrapped steering wheel has been revised. Available unique features include a push button ignition, power folding exterior mirrors, heated seats, idle stop and go (ISG), rearview camera, UVO audio infotainment system, heated steering wheel, power sunroof, projection headlights, and LED taillights.
Kia's safety features, all standard, include front airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, electronic stability control and hill-start assist. ABS brakes automatically sense when a tire has stopped rotating under extreme braking, and will modulate the brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate. This increases the vehicles ability to turn while braking. Stability control automatically senses when the vehicles handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.
